What is the difference between Invisalign and metal braces?

While metal braces have brackets and wires that can easily poke your cheeks and gums, Invisalign is made of a clear, smooth, comfortable BPA-free plastic that is safe and healthy for your mouth. They do, however, share in common the ability to straighten teeth. While metal braces can take up to two years to complete treatment, Invisalign has a shorter time frame of 12 months to 18 months. With Invisalign, you can spend more time enjoying your smile as opposed to dreading metal braces.

How does Invisalign work?

First, Dr. Spitz will map out your Invisalign treatment using the latest 3D imaging and modeling technology. Then your mapped out treatment will be sent to an Invisalign lab to create your aligner sets. The Invisalign aligners are switched out every other week as your teeth slowly shift into place for the next stage of aligners. Metal braces require a dental professional to tighten the brackets for teeth to be straightened over time.

Can my teen use Invisalign?

Absolutely. We have a special option just for teens called Invisalign Teen. These are just like the regular aligners but they also come with a blue dot indicator that turns clear over time so you and your teen will both know when it is time to swap out aligners for the new set that will continue to straighten teeth. It is just like getting your braces tightened but without the pain and inconvenience of metal braces. Your teen will also appreciate that they can continue sports and activities they love without restrictions from metal braces.

How long is the process?

Invisalign treatment plans vary from patient to patient but the average treatment time is just 12 to 18 months while traditional metal braces can take up to two years. Each set of aligners are to be applied every two weeks, or according to your dentist’s recommendation. Once you are finished with your last set of aligners, your journey to a straight smile is complete.

How much is the Invisalign treatment?

At Smileboston Cosmetic & Implant Dentistry, we hate to see patients avoiding treatment due to cost. While the cost of Invisalign depends on your overall oral health and dental insurance, we offer a number of affordable payment options. If you have any questions about the cost of Invisalign or our financing options, don’t hesitate to contact either of our offices for more information.
